Megaproject NEOM – Valves for the world's largest electrolysis plant in Saudi Arabia
In Neom, the world’s largest green hydrogen production plant is being built, which will commence operations in 2026 with a capacity of two gigawatts. NEOM is more than an international major project – it is part of a spectacular vision for the future. Siekmann Econosto supplies valves for what is currently the world’s largest electrolyzer for hydrogen production.
The Neom region in Saudi Arabia is the setting for the megacity NEOM, a model of sustainable living that combines green energy and daily life along a 170-kilometer line from the Red Sea to the mountains, where previously there was desert. Innovative projects that include technology, environmental protection, and a sustainable lifestyle are becoming reality here. To realize the city of the future with connections to the latest technologies and to make Saudi Arabia’s economy independent of oil, major international companies are supplying their specialized products for the ongoing construction of the hydrogen plant.
10,000 SE Special Valves
The future hydrogen plant, which is being built on the outskirts of the city, is intended to make Neom a global hub for green hydrogen energy. On behalf of a renowned American company in the field of basic materials and gases, over 100 modules for an alkaline water electrolysis plant are being supplied, for which a well-known German industrial company has taken responsibility for development and construction. On behalf of this renowned German company, Siekmann Econosto is supplying approximately 10,000 special valves for hydrogen production. This immense quantity of valves from worldwide manufacturing will be called off by the customer for installation in the electrolysis modules in over 20 inspection and delivery lots between November 2022 and July 2024.
We make the energy transition affordable
SE was shortlisted early on, not only due to its experience from over 1,300 realized projects worldwide. Siekmann had already secured a vote of confidence thanks to over 20 years of supplying valves to hydrogen plants. Decisive for the order were the outstanding product expertise, technological know-how, and comprehensive project experience in supplying valves for complex industrial plants. Especially in major projects involving multi-billion dollar investments, Siekmann has consistently proven itself to be an extremely efficient and exceptionally reliable partner, thus exceeding its customers’ expectations. This is demonstrated by pioneering projects that have influenced the awarding of further projects as references.
In November 2022, Siekmann Econosto will deliver the first valve shipment to Neom. The major order includes shut-off valves, ball valves, and butterfly valves according to ASME Code. With more than 65 years of experience in the international valve market, SE is a reliable partner, as Siekmann’s valves have proven themselves in the hydrogen industry segment over the decades. An ideal basis for innovative major projects that require future-oriented and long-term functionality.
